Our Mission:

NuEnglish is an update of English spelling (from about 1500 AD to the present) that aims to bring literacy to all English language learners and speakers. Full literacy will allow individuals to reach their potential, and greatly reduce poverty and crime. This spelling update reflects current pronunciation, while retaining conventional spelling as much as possible for compatibility with existing readers and writings..

Welcome to this website of NuEnglish. Bob Cleckler researched illiteracy and created NuEnglish, and I have been developing it since 2005. Here you can learn about English's literacy crisis, and, more importantly, you can be part of the solution. I had believed the only way to update English spelling was to have a large number of schools use updated spelling, but institutional inertia is almost infinite. Fortunately, I read articles that show individuals can take the initiative and reap the benefits of updated spelling. Translation: Parents can teach NuEnglish to their children, who will learn to read in weeks (instead of years), then learn to read antiquated spelling with little effort. For "proof", read the articles "How Our Spelling Damages the Mind" and "English Orthography: a Case of Psychological Child Abuse." Click here.

To that end, my Beginners' NuEnglish Workbook and NuEnglish Reader are available for sale on Amazon.com. Their prices of $19.95 each may seem high, but I'm not making money on it. The book has a large format and color throughout, and the run is short. I'm promoting NuEnglish because widespread literacy is a worthy goal, not something for me to make money on. I have published other books in NuEnglish: Robinson Crusoe, A Study in Scarlet and 2150 A.D.
